Steps

  1. Download use.fo from the App Store

    Search for "use.fo" in the App Store, or go directly via the link at use.fo/download. Install the app.

  2. Open the app and sign in

    Launch use.fo and sign in with your account. If you have a Subscription or BYOK Mobile license, it will activate.

  3. Add use.fo as a keyboard

    Go to iPhone Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard. Find use.fo in the list and tap it.

  4. Enable Full Access

    Tap use.fo in the Keyboards list → turn on Full Access (Allow Full Access). This is required for the microphone and AI features to work. Without Full Access, use.fo cannot record audio or connect to the rewrite service.

  5. Switch to use.fo keyboard

    In any app where you need to type, tap the text field. Hold the globe icon (🌐) on the keyboard — use.fo will appear in the list. Tap it to switch.

  6. Choose your plan

    Open the use.fo app → Settings. Select Subscription, BYOK Mobile (requires your own API key), or free tier. For BYOK, enter your API key in the provider settings.

  7. Start dictating

    With the use.fo keyboard active, tap the microphone button. Speak naturally. Tap a Rewrite Mode (Email, Work Chat, Social, Translate, etc.) to rewrite your speech. The result is inserted into the text field.

Before you start

You need an iPhone or iPad running iOS 16 or later. use.fo requires Full Access (also called Open Access) to function — this is required for any third-party keyboard that uses the microphone or network.

Troubleshooting

Problem: use.fo keyboard is not appearing when I switch keyboards

Solution: Check Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards — confirm use.fo is listed. If not, add it again. If it is listed but not appearing, restart the app and try again.

Problem: Microphone button does not respond

Solution: Confirm Full Access is enabled: Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → use.fo → Full Access: On. Also confirm microphone permission: Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone → use.fo: On.

Problem: Cannot purchase BYOK Mobile

Solution: BYOK Mobile is an in-app purchase within the use.fo iOS app. Open the app, go to Settings → BYOK / My API Key → Buy BYOK Mobile. Purchase is tied to your Apple ID and can be restored on other iOS devices under the same account.
