No-subscription voice typing

No-subscription voice typing for Windows

Short answer

Windows users can choose BYOK Desktop or Local AI. BYOK has lower hardware requirements but needs your own provider key and can create provider usage costs. Local AI needs a supported x86/x64 Windows device with more than 4 GB VRAM and processes user content on-device after setup.

Who this route is for

  • Windows users avoiding a recurring use.fo subscription
  • Users with their own provider key
  • Users with compatible Windows hardware who want on-device processing

Choose the route that matches your constraints

Check Windows hardware first

Below the Local AI boundary—Windows ARM or x86/x64 with 4 GB VRAM or less—choose BYOK or Subscription. Above that boundary, Local AI is supported, but we do not present low-, mid-, and high-end Windows tiers as measured speed promises because the disclosed model-selection run is on Apple Silicon, not a native Windows device.

Use the global hotkey workflow

Install the Windows app, grant microphone access, set a global trigger key, choose your route, and dictate into the app that already has focus. Use the Microsoft Store path for the standard or Local AI installer that matches your route.

Keep the Windows boundary visible

Windows currently does not support Snippets or Google Drive Snippet Sync. Local AI is also not a substitute for continuous real-time streaming transcription or a Team administration product.

Important limitations

  • Windows ARM does not support Local AI.
  • Windows Snippets and Google Drive Snippet Sync are not supported.
  • Local AI performance varies with device, GPU memory, language, and test conditions.
