Groq API Key Setup for use.fo BYOK
Short answer
To use Groq with use.fo BYOK: create a free Groq account at console.groq.com, generate an API key, open use.fo Settings → BYOK → Groq, and paste your key. Your voice data then routes directly from your device to Groq — not through use.fo servers.

Steps
- Create a Groq account
Go to console.groq.com and sign up for a free account. Groq provides generous free API limits that are sufficient for typical dictation usage.
- Generate an API key
In the Groq Console, go to API Keys → Create API Key. Give it a name (e.g. "use.fo BYOK") and copy the key. Store it securely — it will not be shown again.
- Open use.fo Settings
Open use.fo on your device and go to Settings → BYOK Configuration (or My API Key section depending on your app version).
- Select Groq as your provider
In the BYOK settings, find the provider selection for Speech-to-Text and/or AI Rewrite. Select Groq from the provider list.
- Enter your Groq API key
Paste your Groq API key into the field. The app encrypts and stores it locally on your device.
- Test your setup
Hold your trigger key, speak a sentence, and release. use.fo should transcribe using your Groq key. Check that the status shows BYOK is active.
Before you start
You need a use.fo BYOK license (Desktop $29.99 one-time or Mobile $9.99 one-time) and a Groq account. Groq offers free API access with rate limits; paid tiers are available for higher volume.
Troubleshooting
Problem: Error: invalid API key
Solution: Double-check that you copied the entire key from the Groq Console. Keys start with "gsk_". If it still fails, generate a new key.
Problem: Error: rate limit exceeded
Solution: Groq free tier has per-minute and daily rate limits. If you hit them frequently, consider upgrading your Groq account or using a different provider like OpenRouter.
Problem: BYOK is active but output quality seems different
Solution: Check which Groq model is selected in use.fo for STT and rewrite. Different models have different speed and quality characteristics. Whisper-based models on Groq are generally accurate.
