Short answer
BYOK lets you bring an API key from your preferred provider to use.fo. Desktop BYOK covers macOS and Windows; Mobile BYOK is purchased separately for iOS or Android. The use.fo license is one-time, while provider usage is billed separately. BYOK sends content to your selected provider and is not an offline or local-AI route.
| License | Platforms | One-time use.fo price | Separate provider cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| BYOK Desktop | macOS, Windows | $29.99 one-time license per desktop device | Yes |
| BYOK Mobile | iOS or Android | $9.99 one-time in-app purchase | Yes |
| Local AI | Supported desktops only | $24.99 one-time license per desktop device | No provider usage fee |
Use a supported Groq, OpenRouter, Google AI Studio key. The key remains stored locally on the device, and your content goes directly to the provider endpoint you configure rather than through use.fo servers.
Your total cost is the one-time use.fo license plus the provider’s metered usage. Check the provider’s current pricing before purchase: model choice, transcription volume, and rewrite volume all affect the total.
Follow the provider-specific setup guide, verify the key with a small request, and keep enough provider credit available. An invalid, expired, or depleted key can stop BYOK requests until it is replaced or topped up.
